It's a relief that Eren doesn't question that "will be," the confidence Reiner tries to inject into his words. He knows that Eren has no reason to trust him. He knows, too, that Eren does trust him, at least as far as sex is concerned. It's bewildering. Humbling. Overwhelming. Undeserved.
Still, it's hard to shake the feeling that they're walking into an exam without having studied.
At least Reiner has no reason not to trust Eren. Sure, there are things Eren doesn't tell him, strange things and behaviors that go unexplained. But Reiner knows Eren. He knows how vengeful and dangerous Eren is; he knows how profoundly Eren cares for his loved ones; he knows how similar they are in some respects and how different in others. Reiner can trust Eren to be Eren—and really, isn't that enough?
"Just guns, swords, and knives," Reiner confirms. "Unless you count cannons. But if one of us yanks a cannon out of the other, I'm gonna have questions."
