Event #11 - I Will Make You Mine

I Will Make You Mine
LOGS | NETWORK | OOC | MEMES | NAVIGATION

A-B-C-D-E, F you

Part 1

The next mission is announced at the start of the week. The Autumn Guild Leader, Sawyer, posts a message that reaches everyone's phone:

"To especially those not afraid of the dark or being underground: it's time to go to the Crystal Mines. Those who come along will receive 50 000 Moon Coins as a reward and as many crystals as they want. Those who don't want to go can help with preparations and still receive monetary compensation, even if less (10 000 Moon Coins). Mission starts on the 18th, while major preparations are focused on from the 15th onwards.
- Sawyer"

Attached to the message is a list of things people can help with: food & medical supplies, mining equipment & armor enhancing and working on enchanted, protective masks. The masks are meant to protect everyone going into the mine from possible magical poisons that might become an issue. Tools have been given to make the masks and enchant them. All of these preparations are made through the whole week, but especially during the weekend.

Part 2

Those who wish more of an action role in preparations are once again asked to deliver a teleport crystal to the site and prepare the camping area with barrier stones. Dragons will gladly lend their fast travel services. Meanwhile, anyone who has made friends with one of the flower fairy dogs will learn that they can teleport once a day to a desired location, as long as it's within the same segment (and as long as they receive plenty of pets and ear scritches before and after).

The area around the Crystal Mines is currently the territory of monsters called zweig. They're basically humanoid looking monsters who have been made out of dead branches. As long as there are dead branches around they can form themselves over and over again. They also use these very sharp branches to attack anyone invading their territory and their screams can temporarily paralyze those who hear it, giving them time to dive in to attack. Fire does work well on them, but they're also clever enough to dive into puddles and make themselves as moist as possible to avoid getting burned.

Once they notice the barrier stones their primary goal will be to toss those away or break them. Apparently zweigs hate stones and rocks that emit magical energy and want to get rid of them as soon as possible.

Part 3

The library in Amberfall is also attempting to help with the preparations. Keyword being in attempting, as the local library fairies are currently fighting over which books to take to the Fairy Kingdom and which should be kept where they were. So the library is literally a mess.

Those who visit the library (either asked by the guild to fetch relevant books or for any other reason) will be caught in a magical war. Library fairies use the power of the books to give inspiration to their spells. Getting hit by fairy magic will have several different effects:

• Changing their clothes to fit the theme of a book
• Turning someone into a walking, talking book
• Trapping people into a prison made out of books
• Trapping people into a book (to live the story, whatever part of the story - pray it's not a picture book of volcanoes)
• Making someone speak like a book does (different accent, language or just more dramatic)
• Giving someone wings that start taking them to a different place (meant for books to transfer them automatically). The same magic can also randomly try and sort people into bookshelves - and even make them tinier to make it happen
• Random animal ears and tails
• Giant beard (no matter the gender), very similar to dwarves
• Devil horns, tail and little wings

All of the effects wear off usually by the end of the day (but usually sooner, in a few hours). None of the effects are lethal, but they can cause some manner of injuries. Most of the effects can be reversed by getting hit by fairy magic again, as two different magics cancel each other out.

Occasionally some of the magic also gets past the front door and into the Amberfall district.

They're Taking the Otherworlders to Mine-rinth

Part 1

The entrance to the Crystal Mines isn't sealed by anything, but any of the natives helpers advise to wait for Sawyer to appear before entering the place. They will not, however, stop anyone from wandering in. However those who go in can't come back out or warn anyone about it.

As soon as people enter the mines, all devices stop connecting to the internet. Something is jamming the signal, making communication impossible. Another thing that happens is that all magical powers are nullified, both seasonal ones and otherwordly ones. It does seem most magical items work, however (the ones that don't are any that would deal actual magical damage).

The mines themselves are dark, but the crystals and gemstones in the walls shine with bright enough light to see. The halls are big and completely made out of stone and there's a pathway leading deeper. There's a partially broken down railing stopping anyone from falling, but the pathway is wide enough so there shouldn't be too big of a risk.

Those who decide to walk deeper instead of waiting around will risk getting kidnapped by a skeleton. The skeletons always pick two at the same time, whoever are the closest by, and drag them down into the pit in the middle. If the skeletons think they're in dangers of getting caught or destroyed they will cut their arms off and flee.

Part 2

Even once Sawyer joins the expedition, the situation in the mine doesn't change for the better. Even his powers are nullified, which makes him mad, punching the wall. This seems to open a weird, out of place digital panel. Through this, Sawyer barely manages to send a SOS message outside, warning that something is wrong.

Instead of sitting around, he will arms himself with his weapon of choice: a set of two chakrams. He will lead a group to find those that were kidnapped and fight off more of the skeletons trying to capture more people as they venture down. Finding the others is a priority now and he encourages anyone confident in their weapon skills to follow.

Those who remain at the entrance may investigate the panel more to discover strange games are going on the screen on autoplay. They might see familiar people running through different hallways, but sadly they're unable to really do anything without a proper keyboard.

They can, however, try finding other ways out from the main floor. It's hard to see, but there are tunnels here (dwarf sized). Anyone who can fit through there is free to explore places and possibly find something along the way.

Part 3

The skeletons will take those they've captured into various tunnels deeper inside the mine. Once far enough in the tunnels they will use ropes to tie people together. Some suck at their job and may leave the ropes a little too loose, but once they're done they will leave to find more victims.

Luckily, there's plenty of sharp rocks lying around that can be used to cut the ropes. It's getting out of the tunnels that will be more difficult. The tunnels are like a maze that seems to be moving. See that entrance? Soon a block of rock is covering it. Instead another tunnel is open that wasn't before. Some of the tunnels are even hiding items someone might have dropped while being kidnapped.

Some of the tunnels hide skeletons that are patrolling the area for anyone who might attempt to escape (and will attack people they see out and about), traps that activate when stepped on (such as a pit full of tar that's almost impossible to get out of) and magical gas that starts traveling freely when a rock is moved from its way. This special gas saps away touch energy, so holding onto someone's hand will help with it. The masks made and given before coming to the mines will help combat the effects - if someone didn't get theirs stolen by the skeletons (who will wear them on their head just for fun).

It might take a while to get out. There are rooms that are safe from the moving of the labyrinth; these are the houses of the dwarves that lived there. They can be barricaded from possible skeleton attacks and used to take a break from the madness. There are also canned beans that still haven't expired and some very, very old wine. The beds are extremely small, but at least the blankets seem regular sized.

(OOC note: The paths change because someone is playing the Labyrinth game on a computer somewhere remotely. Until people start playing against the person (in Section 3: Prompt 1), the results are usually unfavorable.)

Always Bring a Laptop to a Sword Fight

Part 1

Sawyer's SOS message arrives. The group still stationed at the entrance start to look for clues and eventually finds even more panels similar to the one inside. An emergency text message goes out to every device;

"Anyone who's good with technology - especially with coding and hacking - please come and help us; we have an emergency at the Crystal Mines."

Research Center staff manages to connect some computers into the panels. Those who came over to help will be asked to look into the coding and take control of the programs inside the panels to best of their ability. The code is complex and whoever is behind it is fighting back whoever tries to access the codes.

Fortunately, one of the programs that's easy to access is the Labyrinth game. Remaining people are encouraged to face whoever is playing the game in a match. The goal is to help the two people they see to advance through the labyrinth and avoid any hostile skeletons by moving walls into different places. This will also help distract the program owner and make it easier for the hackers to work.

This Labyrinth game is, indeed, connected to the actual mazes the kidnapped people are stuck in, so playing the game will also help them.

Taking over the programs lets them shut down one named "Mine Trap.exe", which lets anyone who was stuck inside to finally get out... and power to return. There may also be various other discoveries.

Part 2

Sawyer and anyone following him make it through to the floors where the hostages were taken to. There they will find even more skeletons to fight. Luckily, they're not very good fighters, but there are a lot of them. It's their intent to try and overwhelm the group with their numbers.

Eventually, however, everyone can feel their powers suddenly returning. Sawyer takes full advantage of this by trapping most of the skeletons into a cage made of earth and stone. The fight is far from over, but these skeletons are very weak to elemental magic so defeating them is a lot easier now.

The tunnels stop acting like a game as well, letting anyone who was stuck in them to easily find their way out - or at least let anyone go find them, if they can't get out on their own.

Once the rest of the skeletons are either defeated or captured, Sawyer advices that they should go back and rest. Whoever set the trap clearly knew to wait for them, so they have investigations to do. Before they find how they knew they'd be coming here the actual mission is put on halt.

Part 3

Outside there's a chance to rest and heal before heading back to the city. Those who still want to stay and explore or mine can of course do that, as the problem of powers not working has been solved.

There's still the mystery of how the digital panels have been placed here and why, too. Their expedition really gave them more questions than answers this time.

Sawyer stays for a while to see that everyone is doing alright before heading back to the city, so he can report what happened and start some very serious investigations.

[He will not be addressing the comment that he looks nice, because that is ridiculous, and also he is trying not to encourage the fae to do it more often.]

I am afraid that you have unintentionally walked into the middle of war.

[Such as it is.]

For now it is being kept within the boundaries of the library.
urtitan: (Startled)

[personal profile] urtitan 2024-12-16 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought things were a bit chaotic... they're moving some of the books to the fairy kingdom, right? I suppose it's not as easy--

[In the middle of the sentence, a stray spell hits her, turning her clothes into... white feathers?]

Oh--! Why..?

[The book that hurtled about along with the magic lands nearby, and its title gives them a clue: It's The Ugly Duckling. Frieda can count herself lucky that her "outfit" came from the end of the story, otherwise who knows what would've happened!]

Maybe we should seek shelter!
inexorablejudgment: (061)

[personal profile] inexorablejudgment 2024-12-27 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
[Neuvillette, usually quite poised in all circumstances, startles visibly when Frieda's clothes abruptly change in front of him. He frowns, scowling slightly at the offending book (and, no doubt, the fae magic involved as well), and nods shortly.]

I agree. In the very least we should find another aisle.

[This one appears to be becoming... somewhat hostile.]

Please go ahead. I will take the rear.
urtitan: (Nervous)

[personal profile] urtitan 2024-12-27 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Right!

[She takes the lead, carefully pausing whenever the sound of spells gets all too close or when there's a lack of cover due to books having been removed from the shelves. Disquieting memories of her first brush with cursed books resurface in her mind... it was no fun at all, having her sense of identity exchanged for that of a prince, and having to contend with others being similarly affected. It was so confusing!]

We may need to consider leaving the library altogether until the fairies stop fighting. What if we got banished into a dangerous book by accident?

[She uses her wind magic to catch a toppling heap of books, setting them down gently if nothing else. They can't afford to stop and put everything back in proper order!]
inexorablejudgment: (122)

[personal profile] inexorablejudgment 2024-12-31 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
[Neuvillette, with a mix of Spring abilities and his own native Hydro, manages to keep any incoming books off the two of them from the rear as he follows her. The two of them have suffered only minor impact and he would rather keep it that way, thank you very much!]

I have been attempting to carry out my usual duties despite the disruption, but the problem appears to be escalating.

[And he does have the same concern as her, less for his own safety as much as anyone else who might be targeted. He's quite capable of taking care of himself no matter what sort of book he might end up being thrown into.]

Take a left, up ahead.
urtitan: (Yelling)

[personal profile] urtitan 2024-12-31 11:21 am (UTC)(link)
[Frieda ducks and runs to the left as per his direction, narrowly dodging another magical missile. She lets out a yelp. This is almost bad enough to give her war flashbacks! Neuvillette can't possibly have hoped to keep being able to work amidst this chaos!]

Do you think we can even get out?

[If not, they may have to seek shelter in a quieter part of the building, or else take the long way around on a more peaceful route.]
inexorablejudgment: (010)

[personal profile] inexorablejudgment 2025-01-04 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Neuvillette is... far more capable a combatant than he appears and is only holding back because he does not want to cause any damage to the library.]

Eventually. [He says calmly, knocking an incoming book out of the way with a small blast of air.] Try not to panic.

[Though he is moving quickly after her he doesn't seem to be quite running, and nor is he out of breath.]

The next right, then there should be a study room ahead.
urtitan: (Family Gathering)

[personal profile] urtitan 2025-01-04 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[She nods, keeping her wits together. This isn't an actual battlefield, "just" a clash of library fairies! With the path to the right free, she hurries to the empty room, holds the door open for Neuvillette and closed it behind him once he's inside too.]

I have to say, these are some fierce disagreements! Is this all a dispute over books needed for the expedition that were scheduled to be moved to the fairy kingdom? Or did something worse happen?

[She looks down at herself, feeling a bit ridiculous in her feather dress - there even are feathers sticking out of her hair! - and the black stockings that appeared to complement it, but seeing little recourse for the time being, not knowing any reversal spells.]

inexorablejudgment: (027)

[personal profile] inexorablejudgment 2025-01-18 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[The two might well be comparable with how some of the altercations are going, but Neuvillette seems to be navigating the entire thing with relative ease and after he follows Frieda into the room, he gets a hand on the door to close it along with her.

Then, he shakes his head.
]

I considered that asking may draw unwanted attention to myself, so I have been acting as if I do not notice their behaviour.

[Like naughty children, their mischief often got worse if it was acknowledged.]

But-- [He pauses as a book smacks against the other side of the door.] There may be some merit to what you say.
urtitan: (Sullen)

[personal profile] urtitan 2025-01-19 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
I can't say I blame you.

[Given the fairies' lack of care for who might get caught in their crossfire, she can imagine that a direct confrontation mightn't have gone over any better. They may not be acting out of malice, but they certainly aren't being conscientious either! Alas, the fairy morality strikes again. They truly are different from (most) human(oid)s.]

I have half a mind to attempt leaving the building through a back exit... or should we risk trying to raise our grievances with them?

[She looks at the yellow dragon ring on her hand, but she's fairly sure that it only helps her intimidate monsters, not sapient beings. Otherwise, she wouldn't be in her feathered state now!]

If we did find a way out, do you think we'd be able to find the fairy queen, or a member of her court? An authority figure ought to be able to both undo these spells and restore some order here.
inexorablejudgment: (017)

[personal profile] inexorablejudgment 2025-01-25 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I would call this a minor disagreement at best, knowing what I know of them. I see no reason to involve the queen unless they begin to take their conflict beyond the boundaries of the library grounds.

[It is an inconvenient thing to have to deal with but he feels he knows the Amberfall fae quite well by this point - at least well enough to be able to make this kind of call about it.]

If we wait here, they should find a new diversion in relatively short order. Then we should be able to leave.

[He looks her over briefly.]

As for the effects of their magic... I cannot say how long it will last.
urtitan: (Unsure)

[personal profile] urtitan 2025-01-26 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
[She sighs, resigning herself to the situation at hand, and takes a seat. While they wait for the magical kerfuffle to calm down, they may as well catch up with each other!]

How have you been, then, Neuvillette? Do you work here full-time?

[It's a little ridiculous, she idly thinks, how a fox and a goose(?) are stuck together... but at least it doesn't look like either of them adopted their assigned animal's temperament!]
inexorablejudgment: (007)

[personal profile] inexorablejudgment 2025-02-02 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I am here for several shifts during the week, though I would not go so far as to say the work is 'full time'.

[Of course... Neuvillette has a very different idea of what 'full time' work is than most people, and though he does do what most would consider to be a full time job in the library he doesn't really realise what she's asking him.

One of his white fox ears twitches.
]

It is enjoyable, and I have been able to learn a great deal.
urtitan: (Please...)

[personal profile] urtitan 2025-02-03 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Is there anything you've been researching in particular?

[They spoke a lot about justice, fairness, and conflict, but she wonders if he mightn't have focus interests entirely separate from that.]

So far, I've enjoyed reading about the past especially much. Ellipsa used to be so different... it seems like some civilisations have vanished entirely since the Darkness came.
inexorablejudgment: (043)

[personal profile] inexorablejudgment 2025-02-09 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I have similar interests. The records can be spotty in places - I assume that much was lost when the Darkness first appeared. This may be the centralised library, but no doubt there were other, local record locations for towns that were overcome.

[He nods a little, fully in agreement to what she says.]

They had to make a good many changes in order to adjust to their new reality.
urtitan: (Reaching Out)

[personal profile] urtitan 2025-02-10 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
[Frieda knows how valuable - and, depending on one's point of view, dangerous - knowledge is. It's not for nothing that her ancestor had all books and other documents about the world outside destroyed after leading his people into exile and erecting the Walls. Once their memories were erased, they were unable to contest the official teachings dispensed by government and church: That humanity outside the Walls had been devoured by the titans.

Trying not to let the upsetting thought take over her mind, given how dissimilar the situations are, she walks over to a relatively new map of the Segments (though still depicted as they were before the recent expansion of accessible territory) that hangs on the wall.]

I want to explore various places... the ruins in different locations interest me - there seem to be especially many in the new areas! -, but also places like the flooded woods. I read that an elven kingdom was located there before the whole area got flooded! I wonder if anything remains of it.

inexorablejudgment: (015)

[personal profile] inexorablejudgment 2025-02-18 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[He understands the appeal, to a point. Humans in Teyvat are also often drawn to the ruins of bygone eras and lost civilisations, exploring and delving their depths to find what secrets are hidden inside. Curiosity is something that Neuvillette himself does not always allow himself the luxury of, even if he is a quite curious person by nature.

Following her over to the map she shows interest in, he looks up at it as well.
]

If you find yourself in want of a companion for one of your expeditions, I would be glad to come along.
urtitan: (Cheerful)

[personal profile] urtitan 2025-02-20 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? I'd love that!

[He's proven so level-headed and capable, going exploring with him would surely be marvellous!]

Do you have a focus area that you'd like to explore first?

[While she has a particular love for underwater explorations, she'd rather accommodate him! (Alas, their good fortune - or, perhaps, their sure footing - during the Trial of the Crystal Veil prevented her from becoming privy to his own affinity to water.)]
inexorablejudgment: (009)

[personal profile] inexorablejudgment 2025-02-23 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I tend to favour the underwater areas.

[He tells her this not knowing of her own preference but merely stating his own. She would learn quickly exactly why he had such a preference should they find themselves in such a scenario together, or perhaps even before.]

But there are many options, and while I am not opposed to venturing out alone it feels... more fitting to take a company on an expedition.

[Particularly when one is having an adventure. It doesn't seem the kind of thing one should be doing by themselves.]
urtitan: (Summer Memories)

[personal profile] urtitan 2025-02-24 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
[She's visibly surprised at his preference, fully turning to him from the map.]

I love to go diving, too! Back home, we're far from the sea, but since I arrived here, I've really come to love the underwater world.

[Mainly thanks to her merman boyfriend who showed her all its wonders, of course, but she quickly started to spend time under the waves even on her own, seeing the quieter waters as a retreat for whenever her worries overwhelmed her.]

We could explore the flooded woods' area, but it's very dangerous there from what I've read, so perhaps we could start with the Prism- or Crescent Moon Lake in the Spring Segment!
inexorablejudgment: (214)

[personal profile] inexorablejudgment 2025-03-03 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
You have little need to fear danger if you are at my side. [He tells her. There is nothing at all egotistical in his words - he simply states them as if they are true, and that is all, along with a small smile sent in her direction.]

Least of all in the water, where my own powers hold considerable sway.

[Neuvillette looks up at the map, curious.]

With that in mind... where would you choose to go, were danger not a concern to you?
urtitan: (Reminiscing)

[personal profile] urtitan 2025-03-03 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[Again, he sounds so confident about his ability to protect them both, like when they crossed the crystal-covered river in the fairy kingdom... she has no doubt that it's true, but it does make her curious about just what the nature of his abilities is.

Turning her eyes back on the map, she thinks for a moment, but in the end, she follows her gut instinct.]

I've been curious about what lies in the flooded woods for a long time now, so if danger were no concern, I'd go there first.
inexorablejudgment: (018)

[personal profile] inexorablejudgment 2025-03-11 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Hm...

[Neuvillette regards the map in silence. One of the ocean-blue fox ears currently atop his head gives a curious little twitch.

He had considered going to such places alone. Not because he doubted the ability of other people here to take care of themselves, but because he simply did not believe that many would consider the risk to be worth the potential reward. But, perhaps...
]

Then there is where we shall go. At your leisure.
urtitan: (Peppy)

[personal profile] urtitan 2025-03-11 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I will prepare for it!

[She's excited!! Seeing how the noise outside has died down somwehat, she opens the door and peeks out.]

Do you think it's safe to check if the exit is clear now? I think they either stopped or moved the fighting elsewhere.
inexorablejudgment: (085)

[personal profile] inexorablejudgment 2025-03-18 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I will look. Remain behind me.

[He is not going to allow her to go walking out to check for angry fairies by herself! Neuvillette draws her gently away from the door and moves through it, looking up and down the corridor and listening carefully to the distant sounds filtering through the library.]

I believe we have some time to make our move. Come.
