[Open Log] A New World Fool
WHO: Adachi & You
WHAT: Adachi's arrival, touring the city, etc
WHEN: January 9th
WHERE: Nightwake
WARNINGS: Adachi(s general attitude that won't usually show outside, but does come out in flavor text. Basically he hates everything all the time and uses foul language and is an overall douche. Mostly in his mind for now.
Note: Opt-out, for those who would rather opt out completely from tagging with him. Feel free to use prose or [brackets], I will match.
Outside the Apartment Building
After waking up in a very cold place, being transported into a random room with strangers and being told he was summoned here to 'save the world', Adachi spent a good time in his new room cursing his situation (and wondering why his room had a tote bag full of cabbages out of all things). Things were going well for him. No one suspected a thing and no one could pin the blame on him anymore, thanks to a certain someone.
Yet here he was. In some random ass world that needed to be saved. They couldn't have chosen a poorer saviour than him, for sure. He'd rather watch the world burn.
Though who knows, maybe this place would turn out more interesting than the reality he had to endure. They did talk something about powers. While Adachi already had those, more power was always nice.
Now that he was properly dressed and had his gun with him, Adachi was outside, trying to figure out where to go from here. If he was stuck here, he might as well try and get to know the place, no matter how bothersome it sounded.
"Let's see... didn't this thing have a map on it?" He's browsing his phone to find the map of the city. Maybe something there would catch his attention.
Dining
Adachi ends up in a place resembles a lot like Aiya. Maybe it was the familiarity or the fact that they also sell alcohol with the food. Either way, the food is at least decent and he can get a little more familiar with the people here.
So far, people seemed the same. A little more technologically advanced and actually aware of magic, but he wasn't that impressed with the world yet. Just adding more technology and magic wasn't going to fix what was essentially a boring reality.
How many of the people drinking in this restaurant were filled with desperation because they lacked talent? Honestly, why else would they get drunk in a chinese restaurant. The service certainly wasn't it.
Either way, these were all important observations. Look at him, actually doing a detective job, in a way.
Splash
Eventually he get curious about these so called powers and decides to give them a little spin. It ends up with him getting soaked in water, looking like he was hit with a personal rain shower. Swinging a splash of water upwards might not have been the wisest choice.
"Great. At least it's a warm weather."
Good thing he came to try them in Dayrise coliseum and not in Frostreign where "his" guild supposedly was.

Dining--
Hey.
Look who it is.
The one person he was dreading most showing up here. He'd been keeping on the downlow himself, all this time, just keeping busy with work. Perhaps too busy-- He should've reached out to Rise way earlier, but that's not here nor there anymore.
What mattered was this asshole being out of jail.
So right behind Adachi, he might feel a presence--
Before he'd feel a punch to the back of the head.
"The hell are you doing here, Adachi?!"
no subject
"Dojima-san...! Isn't the usual question about where your coffee is?"
Time to put on the role of the kinda useless partner, as much as it had been a pain in the ass lately.
1/3
"Don't you--"
2/3
Wait. The flash of realization hitting him. Remembering Eva, once just a teenager, now older than him, how he'd been born the same year as her now dead son, how she was 10 years older than him now--
There's no guarantees this Adachi is from 2012.
There was no guarantees this Adachi has been found out yet.
Dojima was lucky he could now assume that his ex-partner was from 2011, since hell, they'd only knew one another a month or so before Souji arrived and the murders ha-- Adachi killed Mayumi Yamano, and then Saki Konishi. But what date during that year? Either Adachi was playing him for a fool, or he wasn't caught yet.
3/3
--He had still tried to reach out to Adachi, after all, when the man kept refusing to see him while in jail. He still-- wanted to understand.
And for all he knew, this Adachi... hadn't done anything yet.
So instead, he pulled out the seat opposite of Adachi, and sat in the chair like he belonged there, glaring at him.
"The 'usual' question isn't what I'd be asking, in a situation like this, Adachi. How long have you been here? My name is pretty easily found with everyone else who's shown up here-- you did get the intro we all do, didn't you? Didn't even cross your mind to check who else from home could be here?"
--Falling into old habits. Lecturing him like he was a kid. But he was watching, trying to figure out which... which Adachi he was dealing with here.
no subject
So Adachi goes on with his facade of being a useless partner cop.
"Give me a break, Dojima-san. I only arrived earlier today! My mind has been trying to catch up with all the new information first", he says, sighing. "I would have checked if I could find familiar people soon enough."
He regrets he didn't do that right away to make sure he knew what he was getting into.
no subject
This being Dojima gesturing out to the restaurant and the world beyond it's walls.
"So, who have you met already, and what Seasonal Power did you end up with?"
Interrogation? Interrogation. Needing to know who to warn, need to reach out to Rise soon and make sure she's safe. Needed to know what he was capable of, besides his 'Persona' and escaping into TVs.
no subject
While he does enjoy the familiarity, it's not really as big of a deal as he makes it seem like.
Of course Dojima would ask so many questions. Once a police detective... even if he could really just take a break. But he needs to be careful about what he replies, just in case.
"Oh, I met Risette! Can you believe it? The real Risette is here with us." He sees no reason to hide the fact that he talked to her, especially since she would likely tell Dojima everything if they talked. "And I woke up in a cold area, so I'm assuming it's winter."
no subject
Great, so he'd already talked to Kujikawa. This made things potentially complicated... he'd definitely be reaching out to her.
Winter powers... so, water, ice, shadows, fear control, fixing physical objects. But he'd be a newbie at it. And Dojima had been practicing a lot.
Because his next words had... something in them. Authoritative. Demanding of an answer in a tone that Adachi would know was familiar when Dojima wanted the truth from him.
"I feel like it's going to give me a headache to ask this... but when exactly are you from?"
Dojima didn't like the idea of hypnotic suggestion, but he'd be a fool not to practice it for situations just like this.
no subject
It shouldn't have effect on him now, especially. Not after everything. He should be able to lie to Dojima's face, just like usual (even if Rise would likely mess that up). Yet something was compelling him to tell the truth.
Adachi does try to fight it. But it's just too strong for him to resist.
"... March 20th, 2012", he finally says, his expression dark. The date is significant, no matter what timeline Dojima comes from, so he doesn't bother hiding behind the fool's facade anymore.
no subject
He was real idiot. It was hard not to blame himself-- that maybe if he had figured it out sooner, at least Morooka wouldn't have gotten killed. Nanako wouldn't have been--
"Good to finally see your real face, Adachi."
...Funny thing was? He meant that, lighting a cigarette casually and taking a deep pull. Was going to need something, and he couldn't depend on alcohol with this guy.
"Of course... that date only makes more questions than it answers," his words coming out in the smoke he let go, but at least not intentionally blowing it into Adachi's face. Even after everything, he hadn't lost his manners, "Namely, your attitude is still pretty shit for a guy who got caught by a bunch of teenagers while I was crippled in December."
no subject
(It certainly wasn't because he liked Dojima enough to not be constantly cruel at him. Not at all)
Since the cat was out of the bag, Adachi just leans back, not caring about the meal in front of him right now. Not smiling at all, either. There was no point in that anymore.
"That never happened for me", Adachi says with a shrug. "I never got caught, thanks to certain someone lying to everyone."
no subject
That thoughtful sound, that Dojima let out when he was mulling over something. Now, Adachi could absolutely be lying to him right now.
But... frankly? Didn't seem like he had the will or energy for it. Dojima'd ruined the 'game', so to speak, by calling his bluff, and showing he wasn't just a powerless human anymore.
"Certain someone, huh."
Wouldn't be Naoto Shirogane. She wouldn't have put her reputation on the line and got caught in that web if she didn't believe in pursuing the truth. Yosuke Hanamura was also not likely. It'd come out during interviews with other Junes employees that he had an obvious crush on Saki Konishi, and though he was an idiot and lacked self control at times, it was clear that her death had helped motivate him into finding her killer, in retrospect.
Taking another deep pull, of his cig--
...But there was someone they both knew who tended to take on too much. Who wanted to fix things. Fix people. Who despite his maturity...
Was only a 17 year old kid, put into stressful situation after stressful situation... fearing the loss of his cousin...
"And I'm guessing..." Slowly letting the smoke leave his lips as he watched Adachi, "Probably helped destroy any evidence to prove your connection to the case, right?"
Because that was just the smart thing to do. Get Souji to do his dirty work, just like he'd gotten Namatame to put people in the tv, by taking advantage of someone in a state of grief and emotional stress.
no subject
"That's Dojima-san for you, always the detective", he says as a confirmation to what he just said. "It was hilarious, actually, watching him actually do it and betray everything him and his team did."
It had been funny. It had also felt really good to seal his victory and gain an accomplice for a good while. Even if he left Inaba right after, he was still connected to Adachi. Hoping to cure him. Hoping to help him find a way.
And Adachi would enjoy tormenting him. There was nothing to save.
So what the hell was he doing here?
"So what now? Are you going to haul my ass into the local jail?"
no subject
Besides, how could he not about Adachi?
He knew the man was trying to needle him. And-- it stung, honestly, knowing that after everything, Souji could betray all of them for Adachi...
...A Souji. It was a possible choice. Just like he could've chosen to believe Souji right from the start. He shouldn't shove all the blame onto a teenager for his own personal failures, not realising sooner Adachi's true nature.
"He can go pretty far when he wants to help people," Dojima's voice stayed pretty even and pensive, taking a sip of water as he watched how... dead, Adachi looked, "Just like Namatame did. Did the case around him fall apart in the end?"
Might was well get info from him, but at that question--
"Maybe I should, but fact is... you haven't done anything yet, here."
Leaning back as he watched the other man, an odd... knowing smile on his face as he realised something,
"...Besides, if you try to do anything too bad here... it won't stick, and you'll just get your ass beat over and over again."
