[Open] Intro + April Catch-All
WHO: A scrunkly new arrival and YOU
WHAT: Intro and Catch-All for April
WHEN: Throughout April
WHERE: Mostly in Nightwake, with a little in Amberfall
ARRIVAL
[ His head still swims with the memory of the last few moments. The phantom scent of fresh flowers was almost intoxicating. The dazzling bursts of living color and the powerful sense of rebirth were mesmerizing. As if he had been walking through a brilliant dream.
And then it was gone, melted away. He's left only with the moving crowd around him and the feeling of confinement he always felt among walls. A frustrated growl rises silently in his throat. He'd let that vision distract him. He needs to know where he is and how he'd gotten here. He strains to listen among the faint din of confused conversation.
The eventual explanations that come from the one called Olwen do little to alleviate his irritation. He offers skeptical glances toward the bits about a troubled world and seasonal powers. But his most dismissive reaction, a sharp "tch" forced through his teeth, is saved for the line about the necessity of physical touch. What a bunch of nonsense.
As soon as this Olwen is through, he's moving again. His pace is slightly staggered, as if he hasn't moved too much recently. But it's essential to discover how much truth was in Olwen's words. Which means finding others to observe. (Instead of just talking to people like a normal person.) Something he was not especially skilled at doing with any degree of subtlety, being used to doing it in a slightly different form.
Whether he's leaning against a wall and obviously people-watching or staring from behind some restaurant table is entirely up to you!
OR maybe you catch him browsing deeply through books at the Amberfall library while muttering to himself:]
So I'm just supposed to ask a random person to hold my hand?
WINDS OF CHANGE
[ He's gathered enough basic information to learn that he's allegedly been appointed to the Spring season. Whatever that means. Apparently, there were more details to be found at the Spring Guild in Blossomcrown.
After more half-believed explanations, finds himself in the practice area, trying to visualize anything dealing with wind. So far, his focus has resulted in a faint orange-red glow from the amulet beneath his shirt but little else.]
What does spring have to do with wind anyway? Shouldn't it be rain?
[ As he mutters it, a gust smacks him directly in the face, disheveling his already messy hair even further.]
HERE KITTY KITTY
[ He hadn't actually intended on questing. Sure, he'd seen the posters talking about some sort of strange cats roaming about. But his focus had remained on gathering as much information about this place as possible. It was only when he'd noticed his amulet feeling oddly hot that he decided to track down the source of the magical disturbance.
Just when he thinks he's discovered its location, he notices the glow fading entirely from the artifact. Something that's never happened before. Alarmed, he looks around himself to find the culprit.
A light mewl startles him, followed by an inky black creature dropping down from a ledge.
A kitten. His brows furrow in concern, as the animal's fur bristles. Hardly an unfamiliar reaction.]
It's not a good time, cat.
[ He goes to nudge it away with his foot, as he continues to search the place with his gaze. Despite its lack of brightness, his amulet still feels warm against his chest. To make matters worse, any light around him seems to be slowing fading as well. The kitten hisses at the motions of his foot and takes a quick swipe at him.
Sighing in frustration, he scoops the animal from the ground to make a quick exit. Only to watch more lights flash out as he walks briskly. All while the cat yowls in protest.
Sorry if you happened to be enjoying any bright technology along the way!]

winds of change
...Rain is frequently accompanied by wind, isn't it?
...As weather phenomena go, the two are not mutually exclusive.
Re: winds of change
I suppose. But spring showers come more readily to mind than anything referencing wind.
Or should I expect more wind in this part of town?
Re: winds of change
...Both natural and unnatural ones. Summoning them seems to be a common side effect of the Spring-related powers.
...At least, that's what I've found.
Re: winds of change
Are you aligned to this season as well?
[ Since he seems to know a fair bit about it. ]
Re: winds of change
...Yes, I'm aligned to the season of Spring as well.
Re: winds of change
( arrival )
[ nil closes the book he was reading. it seems to deal with flora and fauna. ]
My impression of people here is that they're empathetic enough to do so with strangers without question. I don't think you'll have any shortage of volunteers.
Re: ( arrival )
I'm not looking for volunteers.
no subject
Then what are you looking for? Do you have an exacting criteria?
no subject
I don't have any criteria. I find the concept ridiculous. I have no intention of asking others to hold my hand as if I were some lost child.

Rain isn't an element. Water is, but water is more present in winter.
Its how the seasons add to life.
Summer is fire, because the warmth and light of the sun is necessary for all the growth.
Autumn is earth because that is when the soil is replenished by the sleeping and dying plants.
Winter has snow, which raises the water table of the land, keeping it from suffering droughts in the other reasons.
And spring is wind because the change in temperature from cold to hot allows for more movement of air, which allows for things to warm up without getting cooked, and it allows for a large number of plants to spread their seeds.
[Also have a high powered magic demon.]
no subject
It puts him on edge, even more so than just being in this strange place has done.
It doesn't help that the man continues on and on, without encouragement or pause. What is all this about and why does this person think he cares about any of it?
When the lecture concludes, he finally speaks again, with marked wariness. ]
Are you finished?
no subject
Don't ask questions if you don't want answers. It's your own fault if you don't like listening at that point.

here kitty kitty
How the fuck are you doing that?
Re: here kitty kitty
It's not me. There's something else around here. But it's keeping itself hidden. Stay alert.
[ The kitten gives another piercing yowl of displeasure. ]
Re: here kitty kitty
Well, whatever the fuck it is must be following you, because the lights only go out wherever you are.
Re: here kitty kitty
It might be after the cat. It was there when I first noticed the effect.

Winds of Change
Then Wolf manages to hit himself in the face with his own wind gust. "We're losing focus. Here, why don't we try practicing together?" She offers. Training separately hasn't been effective.
Re: Winds of Change
First breeze of spring.
[ His tone is probably rougher than it should be.
But he does at least consider her offer. It's been a while since he actually trained with someone else. And this is a new skill. One that's apparently key to restoring this world and returning to his own. It might be easier to learn from mistakes with someone other than himself there to make them.
He gives her a faint shrug. ]
Fine. How do you want to approach this?
no subject
"Well..." She approaches him once he agrees to the offer, thinking. Trying to recall the times she watched Gregory or Zelestia practice magic. "The first step in any training session is to stretch your muscles right? Get them ready to be worked out. But since we're using magic...maybe we need to get into the right state of mind first. Do you know much about, ah, breathing or meditation?" Madeline knows a little, enough that she and Wolf could possibly stumble through it.

[ It a critical component to mastering shifting after all. But shifting has always felt more natural than any of his new abilities here. ]
I understand how to visualize. The issue here is that I'm unsure what to visualize in order to produce a desired effect.

Lior - Harvest the Colors
One of which finds him by the Unfrozen Lake, thankfully less affected by the cold than others might be due to the amulet pulsing faintly beneath his closed jacket. He looks around himself, listening carefully to the sounds on the wind. The description had said that the animals here were supposed to be unusual colors due to absorbing some natural phenomenon. But it hadn't given much detail about what sort of animals he was supposed to find. He'd opted not to assume his wolf form for this, in case prey animals should be most common.
Though the howl in the distance has him regretting his decision. Only to have it drowned out by a strange barking and then a sort of nasally buzz. What in the world was he walking into here? ]
no subject
no subject
I think that's supposed to be going inside the bottles.
[ He comments from a few feet away. ]
no subject
Hm? ( She looked back, smiling when she recognized him. ) Ah - I suppose it is. I may have become a bit distracted. ( However could that have happened??? )
