1 Out of 10 Wouldn't Recommend
WHO: Wukong, existing CR
WHAT: Returning from death and processing
WHEN: December 5th
WHERE:The Summer flower yard, but mostly around Blossomcrown
WARNINGS:Lots of grief, relief, and musing on death and relationships.
Flower Yard - Locked to LMK cast
Waking up in the Flower Yard was...well it was weird. Even not being himself at the time, Wukong recalled what happened. The portal, sending MK and Red Son through because they were just children, the portal closing. Looks like they weren't kidding about the fact that if you got stuck you died.
The large colorful hibiscus flower tipped forward, slipping him out of it before he could dwell too much and he brushed himself off before looking around. There wasn't really any reason to stick around in this reverse graveyard, and being dead hadn't entirely settled in his mind yet. But he had the nagging feeling that things were just okay. He should head back to Blossomcrown and make sure things are okay.

[ He lets MK have whatever chance he needs before doing anything himself. Half out of consideration and half because he's trying to get his heartrate and expression under control. It might be that he needs to sink away (unnoticed, probably) and wait a while. But wait he will. Whenever the time seems right for it, Wukong will see Macaque step out of a portal and look him over. ]
[ Then he steps close and grips Wukong's shoulders, looking him over again. Checking for injuries or anything of the like. Macaque's expression is eerily calm but for the way his eyes keep darting around. The tightness of his grip probably also gives away the store. ]
[ This seems like it's going to go on, so Wukong will probably be be stuck breaking the silence. ]

Now it's just them and Macaque is being...weird isn't the word he wants to use.
But the silence is getting a little uncomfortable.]
If you're looking for pod spores, I promise that I'm still me.

[ His hands tighten their grip just the slightest bit. ]
My own revival wasn't exactly the cleanest. So.
You're okay? [ Macaque actually holds his breath. Bracing himself. ]

[Wukong knows, and he's doing that thing he does when he wants Macaque to stop worrying. It's fine, everything is going to be fine. We've got this and we can relax.
But it's a little bit forced. He's fine, that's true, but he's not sure how much he wants to think about what happened and still is despite that.]
What about you? Nothing happened in town did it?
no subject
[ Macaque looks incredulous for a flash before stepping forward and pressing his face against Wukong's shoulder. ]
I know you want to move on. [ He's murmuring, yet still not quite able to keep all the emotion out of his voice. ] I get it. Just... give me a second.
Please.
no subject
His default is to not have others worry, not to play it off or pretend, but to genuinely not worry. So he's not going to force it.]
I'm fine. I mean that. Sorry you had to deal with it worse than I did.
no subject
I can see that. [ His voice sounds thick. ] Don't apologize for dying, idiot.
[ There is no sting in that final word. The opposite, in fact. ]

Welcome back. Place wasn't the same without you.

Re: Voice
A little disorienting, isn't it? [ She means the revival process. ]
Re: Voice
[Oh he can tell.]
Definitely disorienting. It like a door closing and then you're halfway across the world suddenly. At least in my case.
Re: Voice
Not that I expect you'll need to, but you get used to it. The first time is always the hardest.
Re: Voice
I hope I never have to. It would suck if I spent all that time being immortal and I just start dying a bunch.

Voice to Action
Re: Voice to Action
Flower Yard
"I'm sorry!" The words spilled out without any hesitation. "I'm so sorry!" MK had planned for him to show up and act like nothing was wrong. Problem was talks with Red Son and others had ruined that idea and so had his emotions. They just spilled out without any warning.
Re: Flower Yard
"Bud! Whoa, what do you have to be sorry for?" he asked, wrapping his arms around MK. It was a little awkward, as it always was when MK caught him unaware, but he was trying to provide comfort.
Re: Flower Yard
The least he could do was help him and make sure he was taken care of. Get him to eat and sleep what he could and just try to reassure him until Wukong was back.
Of course, its no surprise the moment MK sees Monkey King, he's off like a shot.
Red Son slows down, watching at MK tackles into Wukong. He waits a few moments, makes sure they're together.
Then he turns to go. It was better to let MK and Wukong have this time together. MK would come back when he was ready, even though he knew it'd be a while. And better to not add any extra strain to the situation.
Re: Flower Yard
"it's my fault! I'm sorry. I shouldn't have gone!" MK sobbed as the guilt and sorrow were raw in his voice.
Re: Flower Yard
He started to pet through MK's hair, holding him tight. The pain his student was feeling was palpable and Wukong absolutely hated it. He hated the idea that MK would ever regret trying to to do the right thing just because of something he couldn't control.
"You were amazing on the mission. I'm glad you were there."
Re: Flower Yard
"If I hadn't gone, you might have made it out. You would have...gotten back. Did I slow you down? Maybe if I didn't go or get younger...I lost you again...and I feel like it's all my fault!"

Days Later
Thinking.
So the message comes later, after letting the others have a chance to settle their feelings.
With the message is a picture, a coffee table absolutely laden with peach themed foods, treats, and liqueurs. From cheap convenience store fair to desserts that cost a pretty penny.
And an address and a room number at a karaoke place of all things.
You can come and just take all the treats if that's what you want. I'm not forcing you to stay.
Re: Days Later
It's almost enough to distract him from the message, but only almost. He doesn't answer for about fifteen minutes or so, and when he does it's over voice.
"I'm guessing you'd rather I didn't though, so I'm outside the door."
Might as well do this now. It's probably overdue anyway and he had noticed Red Son there at the Flower Yard.
Re: Days Later
Red Son opens the door and yep. There is definitely a bunch of peach flavored treats there. The room probably smells like a peach bath bomb. There was also more than just the peach buffet. There were also soft looking blankets in a corner and extremely cute stuffed animals and Shen Hong curled on top of the mound.
"It depends on what works, really," he said, closing the door after he was inside. Then he moved over to one of the single seats, furthest from the door, and let himself sit down. "Places like these, the rooms are fairly soundproof because." He gestures to the karaoke machine. "It has tv screens for videos. It isn't far to reach any snack or beverage place. And the way I figure it, between the various ticks and mental hang ups of the others, it could have easily slipped by where you haven't really let yourself process what happened. So...this is to offer you a space to process and figure out if you're okay."
Re: Days Later
"You know me. I'm as okay as I ever am" Translation: I'm not really dealing with the not okay, and that's normal so why change now? Which was more a symptom of never having the time to be anything but okay enough, but was also something he wasn't really equipped to deal with. "I mean, being dead after literally not being able to die aside, it wasn't the worst way to go, so it's not like it's the most intense thing ever. Honestly everyone else is taking it way worse so I've just been trying to help with that."
Re: Days Later
Which meant he wasn't okay because Red Son has long figured that out.
"But that is why I'm...trying this," he said, gesturing around. "There's the food. There's Shen Hong." Who had come to curl up against Wukong as he sat down. "Blankets. Karaoke can be therapeutic. I have videos we can play from my phone, two monkey cop movies, a Halloween Special of that animated series, Dragon Girl's streams that contain heroics or just having fun, with a lot including Noodle Boy, a disturbing amount of cute animal videos now that I've catalogued them, and about a season of episodes of How It's Made." Guess why he has most of the videos. Thankfully he upgraded his memory storage a decade ago.
"Or you could talk, scream. Whatever. Because it is....difficult, going from feeling nothing could touch you, and being shown that is not the case," he said, playing with the end of his jacket. The Fire wasn't quite the same, but it's close enough to get an idea.
"Nothing said here will leave this room," he promised. "And if I feel the need to fight you, I'll leave before I start. Or I can leave and let you enjoy the snacks and videos and Shen Hong, just drop her off back home, or pick up other things through the night or..." He waves a hand in the air. "I don't know, that was all I could think of for options."
Re: Days Later
"Probably not going to talk about it, but you're okay? That's all I'm really concerned about."
He wasn't about to tell Red Son he should or shouldn't stay, but his nephew had already offered to leave it so he could enjoy before he even got here...but here he was anyway. Hopefully that said enough.
